file folder window reader

file folder viewer

Turn a file folder into a window viewer.

Create this window reader with slider to help students focus their attention on the text.

Limiting the amount of text a student sees at one time can help them focus on the words without getting distracted or overwhelmed by other text on the page. The slider can also be positioned to cover up parts of words to allow them to sound out one part or syllable at a time. Students seem to like this, especially if you call it a “decoder”.

Directions:

1. Cut an 8.75″ slit in the folded edge of the folder. This is where you will feed your sheet of paper through.

2. Turn the folder over. Cut out a 8.5″x0.5” window about 1″ down from the folded edge.

3. Turn the folder back over. Cut off a 1″ strip from the long side of the folder. This will be your slider.

4. Measure in 1″ from the left side of the slider, and cut a 1/4″ notch on either side.

5. Pull the slider through the window, hooking it on the notches.
